Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or additional all-purpose flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (non-fat preferred)
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Toppings (Optional)
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Cinnamon sugar
- Rosemary Parmesan
- Shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Asiago)
Instructions
- Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
- Stir in Greek Yogurt: Make a hole in the center of the dry ingredients and add the plain Greek yogurt. Use a spoon or small rubber spatula to stir until the mixture forms a shaggy dough.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 1 to 2 minutes until the dough becomes smooth, adding a light dusting of flour to your hands or the counter if the dough feels too sticky.
- Shape the Bagels: Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each piece into a ball, then shape it into an 8 to 9-inch long rope about 3/4-inch thick. Connect the ends to form a bagel shape, pressing lightly to seal the edges. Repeat with all pieces.
- Apply Toppings: Place the shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the egg wash to help toppings adhere. Sprinkle with your choice of everything bagel seasoning, cinnamon sugar, rosemary Parmesan, or shredded cheese.
- Air Fry: Arrange the bagels in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. You may need to cook in batches. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown on top and sides.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the bagels from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Enjoy warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can use all all-purpose flour if you prefer, but whole wheat adds extra fiber and nutrients.
- Adjust the toppings to suit your taste or omit them for plain bagels.
- To prevent sticking, lightly dust your hands with flour when shaping the dough.
- Cook the bagels in batches if your air fryer basket can’t fit all four at once to ensure even cooking.
- Let bagels cool slightly before slicing to avoid tearing the crumb.
