Description

Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Tacos feature crispy baked wonton shells filled with savory hoisin-glazed chicken and a tangy coleslaw topping. This Asian-inspired American dish blends crunchy textures and vibrant flavors, served with a sweet chili sauce and garnished with cilantro and sesame seeds, perfect as an appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

Slaw

  • 1 bag coleslaw mix
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (for slaw)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (for slaw)
  • 1 tbsp honey

Wonton Shells and Garnishes

  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Sweet chili sauce, for serving
  • Chopped cilantro, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly spray the back of a muffin tin with cooking spray. Drape wonton wrappers over the inverted muffin cups to form taco shells and bake for 5-7 minutes, until crisp and golden.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink.
  3. Glaze Chicken: Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, and minced ginger with the chicken. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the chicken to become glazed and flavorful.
  4. Make Slaw: In a bowl, combine coleslaw mix, green onions, 1 tablespoon sesame oil (for slaw), rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Toss until all ingredients are evenly coated.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Fill each wonton shell with a portion of the glazed chicken. Top with the prepared slaw, a drizzle of sweet chili sauce, chopped cilantro, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately for the best crunch and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add sriracha to the chicken mixture or drizzle over the tacos.
  • Swap hoisin sauce for teriyaki sauce if you prefer a milder flavor.
  • Keep the wonton shells crisp by filling them just before serving.
