Description

Beef Pepper Rice inspired by Pepper Lunch, featuring tender shabu beef, aromatic black pepper sauce, and a medley of vegetables served on hot rice with a buttery finish. This hearty, flavorful dish is perfect for a quick yet satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 12 oz sliced shabu beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup corn kernels
  • 1 large bowl day-old rice
  • Butter, to top on rice
  • Green onion, for garnish

Black Pepper Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Pan: Heat a pan over medium heat and add a splash of oil. Add the sliced onion and cook until translucent, then stir in 2 cloves of minced garlic to release their aroma.
  2. Cook the Beef: Push the onions to the side of the pan, add more oil if needed, then add the sliced shabu beef. Cook until the beef is nicely browned on all sides, developing a rich flavor.
  3. Assemble Ingredients on Pan: Spread the cooked beef and onions evenly across the pan. Add the day-old rice to the center, pressing lightly to distribute heat evenly.
  4. Add Toppings: Sprinkle fresh corn kernels and sliced green onions on top of the rice. Optionally, place 1 tablespoon of butter on the rice to melt and enrich the flavor.
  5. Prepare Black Pepper Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together light soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, ground black pepper, and minced garlic until well combined.
  6. Combine and Serve: Pour the black pepper sauce evenly over the beef, onions, and rice mixture. Mix everything together thoroughly on the hot pan to absorb the flavors. Serve warm and garnish with additional green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Using day-old rice prevents clumping and helps achieve the perfect texture.
  • Adjust the amount of black pepper in the sauce to make it more or less spicy according to your taste.
  • Shabu beef slices can be substituted with any thinly sliced tender beef.
  • Butter adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter version.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the signature sizzling effect.
