Description

This Cheese Crust Breakfast Pizza is a delicious and hearty breakfast option featuring a crispy, cheesy crust topped with eggs, savory breakfast sausage, and a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. It’s perfect for a weekend brunch or a special morning treat, combining rich flavors and a satisfying texture without the traditional dough crust.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Crust

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ lb (225 g) breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup red onion, diced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley or chives, chopped
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a pizza pan or baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Make Cheese Crust: Evenly spread the 2 cups of shredded mozzarella and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese in a large circle on the prepared pan, about 10 to 12 inches in diameter. This forms your cheesy crust base.
  3. Bake Cheese Crust: Bake the cheese crust in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese has melted, is bubbly, and lightly golden. Then, remove the crust from the oven carefully.
  4. Add Toppings: Crack the 4 eggs evenly across the cheese crust base. Sprinkle the cooked and crumbled sausage, diced red onion if using, and the additional shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top. Season everything with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes for a touch of heat if desired.
  5. Bake Again: Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 10 to 12 minutes, or until the eggs are set to your preferred doneness and the cheese has fully melted on top.
  6. Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle the fresh parsley or chives on top for a fragrant, fresh finish. Slice the pizza and serve hot for a delicious breakfast experience.

Notes

  • You can customize the toppings by adding vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • For a spicier version, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of hot sauce.
  • The cheese crust acts as a low-carb alternative to traditional pizza dough, perfect for gluten-free diets.
  • Make sure to cook the sausage thoroughly before adding it to the pizza.
  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor impact as a garnish.
