Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (210g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix-ins
- ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style)
Optional Topping
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar
- Additional sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat and prep the pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Combine the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Mix the wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Fold in the sprinkles: Gently fold in the red and green jimmies sprinkles carefully to prevent colors from bleeding.
- Pour and bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Optionally sprinkle coarse sugar or additional sprinkles on top. Bake for 45–55 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, checking around 40 minutes to avoid overbaking.
- Cool and serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve as desired.
Notes
- Use jimmies sprinkles instead of nonpareils to prevent color bleeding.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the crumb soft and tender.
- Always line the pan with parchment paper for easier bread removal.
- Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.
- Store bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
- Optional cinnamon or almond extract can be added for flavor variations.
- For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend but expect slight texture changes.
- Substitute buttermilk with milk plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar, resting 5–10 minutes.
