Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating that the yeast is active.
- Prepare the dough: Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and blue food coloring to the yeast mixture. Gradually incorporate the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately ¼ inch thick.
- Add filling: Evenly spread the softened butter over the rolled dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and ground cinnamon mixture on top.
- Roll and cut: Tightly roll the dough from the long side to form a log. Cut the log into 9 to 12 equal rolls using a sharp knife.
- Second rise: Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish or pan. Cover and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top.
- Prepare the frosting: In a bowl, beat together the cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and blue food coloring until smooth and creamy.
- Decorate: Once the rolls have cooled slightly but are still warm, spread the blue frosting generously over the top. Sprinkle crushed chocolate chip cookies and mini chocolate chips over the frosting to finish.
