Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 14 oz (1 can) sweetened condensed milk
- 3 cups white chocolate chips
- 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Flavorings and Toppings
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies
- Red food coloring (optional for extra swirl effect)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, making sure the paper overhangs the edges to allow for easy removal of the fudge once set.
- Melt Chocolate: Place the white chocolate chips in one bowl and the semi-sweet chocolate chips in another. Melt each either in the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring in between, or using a double boiler on the stove until smooth and fully melted.
- Mix Ingredients: Stir half of the sweetened condensed milk into each bowl with the melted white and semi-sweet chocolates, respectively, mixing thoroughly until the mixtures are smooth and well combined.
- Add Peppermint: Add the peppermint extract to the white chocolate mixture and stir well to infuse the flavor evenly.
- Create Layers: Pour half of the semi-sweet chocolate mixture into the prepared pan and smooth it out into an even layer. Quickly pour half of the white chocolate mixture on top, then repeat with the remaining semi-sweet and white chocolate mixtures. Use a knife to gently swirl the two layers together to create the signature peppermint swirl effect.
- Add Peppermint Candies: Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies evenly over the top of the fudge. If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring and use a toothpick to swirl it into the fudge for a more vibrant red swirl pattern.
- Chill: Place the pan in the refrigerator and chill the fudge for at least 4 hours, or until it is fully firm and set.
- Serve: Lift the fudge out of the pan using the overhanging parchment paper. Cut into small squares and serve chilled.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor and smooth texture.
- Be careful not to overheat the chocolate while melting, as this can cause it to seize or become grainy.
- The red food coloring is optional but adds a festive touch, especially around holidays.
- Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- If you prefer a softer fudge, reduce chilling time slightly but ensure it is still firm enough to cut into clean squares.
