Description
These Smash Burger Tacos combine the crispy, caramelized goodness of classic smash burgers with the convenience of a taco, making for a quick, flavorful meal that’s perfect for any occasion. Ground beef is smashed directly onto tortillas and cooked until golden and crispy, then topped with melted cheese and fresh toppings like lettuce, onions, and dill pickles for a satisfying bite every time.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Tacos
- 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
Toppings
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Divide the beef: Separate the ground beef into 4 equal portions to form the base for each taco.
- Shape and season: Spread one portion of ground beef thinly over each tortilla, making sure it’s evenly distributed. Season the beef with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
- Heat the skillet: Place a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the neutral oil, allowing it to warm up thoroughly before cooking.
- Cook beef side down: Place the tortillas meat-side down into the hot skillet, cooking for 2 to 3 minutes until the beef layer is golden brown and crispy.
- Flip and add cheese: Carefully flip each tortilla and top the cooked beef side with a slice of cheese. Cook for an additional 1 to 3 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and the other side to cook through.
- Repeat cooking: Remove the cooked tacos from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining tortillas and beef portions until all are cooked.
- Assemble tacos: Layer each taco with shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips. Optionally, add your favorite sauce for extra flavor before serving.
Notes
- For a crispier texture, press down gently when cooking the beef on the skillet.
- Use extra-sharp American cheese or cheddar for a more flavorful melt.
- Consider warming the tortillas before spreading the beef to prevent tearing.
- You can swap flour tortillas for corn tortillas for a gluten-free option if desired.
- Adding a creamy sauce like chipotle mayo or ranch dressing pairs excellently with these tacos.
