Ingredients
Scale
Truffle Base
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
- 2 cups white cake mix
- 1/4 cup cane sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles
Coating
- 10 oz white chocolate wafers (or chopped white chocolate)
- 2 tablespoons Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
- Heat Treat Cake Mix: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the white cake mix evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cake mix reaches 160 degrees F to ensure it’s heat-treated. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely without burning.
- Prepare the Truffle Dough: Cover a large cookie sheet with waxed paper. In a large bowl, cut the softened butter into small pieces and add it to the bowl. Add the cooled cake mix and cane sugar, stirring to combine.
- Blend Butter and Mix: Using a fork, work the butter into the cake mix until fully combined and a smooth dough forms. Add vanilla extract and mix everything together thoroughly with your hands.
- Add Sprinkles: Gently fold in 1/2 cup of Christmas sprinkles into the dough to distribute the festive colors evenly.
- Form Cake Balls: Using a tablespoon-sized cookie scoop, measure out portions of the dough and roll each between your palms to form smooth balls. Place the truffles onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Chill Truffles: Freeze the truffle balls for 10 minutes to firm up before dipping in chocolate.
- Melt White Chocolate: Place white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then continue microwaving in 20-30 second intervals stirring well between each until completely melted and smooth.
- Coat Truffles: Use a fork to dip each chilled cake ball into the melted white chocolate, fully coating it. Place coated truffles back onto the baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle the top with 2 tablespoons of Christmas sprinkles for a festive finish.
- Set the Coating: Refrigerate the coated truffles for at least 20 to 30 minutes, or until the white chocolate hardens.
- Store: Keep the finished Sugar Cookie Truffles refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 7 to 10 days to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Ensure the cake mix is heat-treated by baking to kill any bacteria – important if using cake mix in no-bake recipes.
- Use waxed paper or parchment paper on the baking sheet for easy truffle removal and cleanup.
- Adjust the size of the truffles to suit preference; smaller truffles will yield more pieces.
- White chocolate can be substituted with milk or dark chocolate based on taste preferences.
- Sprinkles add festive color and texture but can be omitted or replaced with crushed nuts or cocoa powder for different variations.
