  • Author: Ella
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: Approximately 24-28 truffles depending on size 1x

Description

Delight in these festive Sugar Cookie Truffles, a creamy and colorful holiday treat made from heated cake mix, butter, and sprinkles, all dipped in luscious white chocolate. Perfect for Christmas gatherings or as a sweet seasonal gift.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
  • 2 cups white cake mix
  • 1/4 cup cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles

Coating

  • 10 oz white chocolate wafers (or chopped white chocolate)
  • 2 tablespoons Christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Heat Treat Cake Mix: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the white cake mix evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until it reaches 160 degrees F to ensure it is heat treated and safe to consume raw.
  2. Cool Cake Mix: Remove the tray from the oven and let the cake mix cool completely to room temperature, making sure it does not burn.
  3. Prepare Truffle Base: Cover a large cookie sheet with waxed paper. Cut butter into pieces and add to a large bowl along with the cooled cake mix and cane sugar. Stir to combine.
  4. Blend Dough: Use a fork to blend the butter into the cake mix thoroughly until a smooth dough forms. Add vanilla extract and mix all ingredients with hands to make an even mixture.
  5. Add Sprinkles: Gently fold 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles into the dough for a festive touch.
  6. Form Truffles: Use a tablespoon cookie scoop to measure batter and roll each portion into a ball using your palms. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Chill Truffles: Freeze the formed truffle balls for 10 minutes to firm up before coating.
  8. Melt White Chocolate: Place white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth.
  9. Coat Truffles: Dip each chilled truffle ball into the melted white chocolate using a fork and return to the baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with 2 tablespoons additional Christmas sprinkles.
  10. Set Coating: Refrigerate the coated truffles for 20 to 30 minutes or until the white chocolate hardens completely.
  11. Store: Keep the sugar cookie truffles refrigerated for up to 7 to 10 days to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Heat treating the cake mix by baking is essential to kill any potential bacteria.
  • Use room temperature butter for easier mixing and a smoother dough.
  • Do not overbake the cake mix to avoid a toasted flavor.
  • White chocolate melting can be done carefully using a double boiler if preferred over microwaving.
  • Truffle size affects the final yield, so adjust scoop amounts accordingly.
  • Store the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge to keep them fresh longer.
