Description
Taste Air Fryer Rice Paper Noodle Rolls are a crispy and healthy appetizer featuring delicate rice paper filled with vermicelli noodles, shredded vegetables, and a flavorful protein like tofu or shrimp. Air frying gives these rolls a perfectly crispy exterior without deep frying, making them a lighter yet satisfying snack or starter. Served with your choice of sweet chili, peanut, or soy-ginger dipping sauce, these rolls are quick to prepare and delightful to eat.
Ingredients
Rice Paper Rolls
- 8 rice paper sheets
- 1 cup cooked vermicelli noodles
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1 block firm tofu (or 8 cooked shrimp)
- 2 tablespoons green onion, sliced
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (or rice vinegar)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Oil spray for air frying
Optional Dipping Sauce
- Sweet chili sauce
- Peanut sauce
- Soy-ginger sauce
Instructions
- Soak rice paper sheets: Soak one rice paper sheet in warm water for 10–15 seconds until it becomes soft and pliable for easy rolling.
- Prepare rolling surface: Transfer the softened rice paper to a damp surface such as a wooden board or clean towel to prevent sticking while assembling.
- Add filling: Place a small layer of cooked vermicelli noodles in the center of the rice paper, then top with shredded carrots, chopped cabbage, and your choice of tofu or cooked shrimp.
- Roll the rice paper: Fold in the sides of the rice paper, then tightly roll from the bottom up like a burrito. Repeat this process for all sheets.
- Prepare for air frying: Lightly brush or spray each roll with sesame oil or a neutral oil to help crisp the exterior during air frying.
- Preheat air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 2–3 minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Arrange in air fryer basket: Place the rolls seam-side down in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding to allow crispy air circulation.
- Air fry the rolls: Cook for 8–10 minutes at 375°F, flipping the rolls halfway through to achieve a golden, crispy texture on both sides.
- Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve hot with your preferred dipping sauce like sweet chili, peanut, or soy-ginger for a flavorful finish.
Notes
- Soaking rice paper sheets briefly is important to prevent tearing and to make rolling easier.
- You can customize fillings by adding herbs like cilantro or mint for extra flavor.
- Use firm tofu pressed to remove excess moisture to avoid soggy rolls.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even crisping.
- Rolling seams down in the air fryer helps keep the rolls intact during cooking.
