Ingredients
Scale
Rolls and Cheese
- 12 Hawaiian rolls
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Butter and Seasonings
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (oregano or basil, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sandwiches.
- Slice Rolls. Without separating the individual rolls, slice the entire pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally in half to create a top and bottom layer.
- Butter the Rolls. Spread the softened butter evenly on the cut sides of both the top and bottom halves of the rolls to add moisture and richness.
- Add Flavor. If desired, sprinkle garlic powder and dried herbs over the buttered surfaces for extra savory flavor.
- Assemble Cheese Layer. Evenly distribute the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the bottom half of the rolls, making sure the cheese covers the surface well.
- Reassemble Rolls. Carefully place the top half of the rolls back onto the cheesy bottom half, creating a sandwich.
- Wrap in Foil. Tightly wrap the entire assembled sandwich in aluminum foil to prevent drying out during baking.
- Bake. Place the foil-wrapped rolls in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese has fully melted.
- Optional Crisping. For a golden, crispy crust, unwrap the foil and bake the rolls for an additional 5 minutes uncovered.
- Serve. Remove the rolls from the oven, let them cool for a minute, slice into individual portions, and serve warm.
Notes
- You can use any combination of cheeses if you prefer a different flavor or texture.
- To add a spicy kick, consider adding a dash of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute the Hawaiian rolls with your favorite gluten-free bread rolls.
- Make sure not to unwrap the foil during the initial baking to keep the rolls moist.
